Why Teenagers Don't Talk To Their Parents

Believe it or not - Being a teenager is not easy these days. In fact, it is one of the most life shaping and gruelling years of a child's life. And what's more saddening than a child not being able to talk to their parents about their problems during these years. It's true and the reason behind it is quite simple. The answer lies in the previous parenting years when parents have somehow instilled in their children that love and care is primarily based on their good behaviour an achievement.

Of course, no parent wants that their kids ever go through something that makes them suffer but they also have to understand that the perils of adolescence are non-avoidable. And it is always better that the kids talk to their parents about anything that they are having a hard time with than anybody else. When the teenagers do not want to talk to their parents, it is not because they are not caring or loving but because of their punitive disconnecting discipline techniques which have made them believe that they would only be loved if they are good. These discipline techniques coupled with achievement based rewards and praise has closed the doors for honest and communicative relationship. To open it again, we need to be mindful of how we lay the foundation of this trusting relationship in early years.
