World Autism Awareness Day
Editorials News | Apr-07-2017
April 2, 2017 was celebrated as the tenth annual World Autism Awareness Day. It is an internationally recognized day celebrated every year on April 2. It was designated under the UN Assembly Resolution “62/139”. The motive is to make continuous and non- tiring efforts not only by the UN, but by general public to raise awareness about the disorder and give recognition and acceptance to autistic children. Various fund-raising events were organized all around the globe to ensure a better and burden free lifestyle to these special children.
Thousands of iconic landmarks and buildings joined by homes and communities were lit up blue as part of the “Light it up Blue” campaign by Autism Speaks, a U.S. based advocacy organization. PVR Cinemas scheduled a special screening with soft sound, visible light and free movement of children during the show.
The landmarks which came up with support include the White House, Royal Opera House Theatre, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Virginia Beach Convention Centre Tower, Qutub Minar and many other attraction centres around the world.
Autism is the fastest growing neuro-developmental disorder in the world. The disorder impacts the ability to speak and understand what is being conveyed to them. If observed critically, it can be diagnosed in a child within 18 months.
