Evolution of a Street Art

Street art is an art which is created on the surfaces in a public area like highway overpasses, sidewalks, and exterior buildings. Street art tends to happen in urban areas. It basically created as a medium to convey a message which is related to social commentary, political ideas or confrontation. Now, not every street art involves painting. It also includes stickers, stencils, or yarn bombing.

Graffiti is different with street art because traditionally, people who made graffiti, they don’t care that public to understand it while street artist makes art to send a message and want people to see their work because their goal is to provoke discussion and reaction. The definition of the street art is still a process of being written and continues to evolve. From the thousands of years, people leave their mark on the walls. In terms of contemporary street art, the beginnings of scratching or tagging started in the late 1960s in New York. It also tied with graffiti artist of the 1970s and 1980s, who were looking for new places to make art, rebelling and reacting against society's rules. Even the fine arts are also using the similar methods reacting towards the insular gallery scene and the decorum of the art world. The In the 1980s, People like Lee Quinones and Keith Quinones, who painted graffiti murals in the NYC, began to catch the art world’s attention.

Mural painting became a very popular way of expressing a point of view. In 1908, Northern Ireland, the earliest political wall murals were painted. There some areas where people are very dedicated to covering their walls of buildings with mural arts like the city if Philadelphia.
