Health Sciences Soon To Become Part of School Curriculum
Editorials News | Feb-01-2019
Health Science refers to those sciences which focus on health, or health care, as core parts of their subject matter. Health Sciences and management of health is a core subject that must be taught in schools. The knowledge of primary healthcare is important for the students. Usually children and even adults panic during medical emergencies because of which the situation deteriorates largely.
Provision of the knowledge of health sciences at the school level shall help the students to be capable enough to provide first aid to their own selves and to other people around them in school and at home. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made its mind regarding the inclusion of the subject of Health Sciences in the curriculum of classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. The syllabus shall now consist of basic knowledge regarding primary healthcare along with the already existing syllabus for these classes. It is presumed that this inclusion shall come into force from the beginning of the next academic session. It has been decided that the curriculum shall be designed and drafted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in consultation with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). An official informed that they had conducted a survey at their level before planning this course on health sciences. During the survey it was found that the students are unaware about what exactly needs to done in cases of medical emergencies, for example: what should be done in case someone suffers from a dog bite; or what should be done if one meet an accident or has suffered a heart attack. The students were found blank about these subjects. We often see that the condition of the patients becomes critical till they are brought to the hospital. This happens purely due to lack of first aid. Due to lack of knowledge concerning the first aid, the condition of the patient becomes worse and sometimes proves fatal also. In furtherance of the same, the CBSE has decided to introduce this new subject so that the students are aware of the steps that they must take in such conditions. Presently, the new syllabus for the subject of Health Sciences is being reviewed by the HRD Ministry and it would be brought into force in the month of April in the next academic session after it receives the approval of all the competent authorities in this regard.
