Editorials News | Aug-27-2018
Geography is very interesting subject that can make a student travel the entire world without leaving the classroom. Geography should be incorporated in school curriculum to help students learn about the working of our planet and gain a global perspective and know about the World around them.
Students can engage themselves in mock GeoBee contest in the class as different groups. Different topics like Oceans, Continents, can be made as the theme.
Students can set up Pen Pal exchange with a teacher in another City, State or even a different country who helps them practice their writing skills and at the end of the term they can connect to the teacher via Skype Chat and meet her/him finally.
Students can put wall clocks depicting different time zones or times of cities across the world and label them.
Make students design Travel brochures. It will help them select different places within the country or abroad study about the places and then design the brochure with the knowledge gained. This is one great way of incorporating the skill of writing, presentation and geography in one single project.
Make the students check their shoes and clothing and see where these were manufactured and then locate and mark those places on a huge global map. Then elaborate more on the climate, culture and the people of that place or country.
Get a inflatable giant globe ball and toss it around, one who gets the ball tells the class which ocean, continent or place his/her right thumb is touching.
Geography classes can be fun filled, creative and informative.
