‘No Detention’ Policy to Change for Class 5th to 8th

The Indian government is considering of canceling the No- detention policy of students studying from class 5th to 8th. The policy was introduced earlier by UPA government. Currently the Human Resource development panel is planning to scrap the old policy and implement new policies across the nation.

The ministry has recommended that the students must be cleared at Class 5 to 8 levels. Vasudev Devnani, who is working as one of the panel of state ministers on the new national policy said that they have given recommendations on ‘No detention’ policy to 22 states out of which 18 states have agreed to consider the changes. Implementation on the recommendation can only be done after an amendment by the Centre on the Right to Education Act.

The no-detention policy was first introduced by the UPA government on April 1, 2010. The policy was considered key component of the Right to Education Act. The purpose behind the no-detention policy was to provide school education to children between the ages of 6 to 14.
