School Principals To Act As Pedagogical Leaders Says CBSE

Education is the basic requirement of each nation. A nation with educated citizens will undoubtedly grow and bloom in all possible respects. The government of India leaves no stone unturned in order to ensure that quality education is delivered to all the students.  

The government keeps introducing new practices and initiatives in order to improvise the quality of education in India. Lately, the CBSE has come up with a new set of responsibilities for the principals of the schools. From now on, other than formulation and execution of teaching, learning plans, the students will also be responsible for evaluation of the effectiveness of the learning program and meet the standards established to optimize learning environments. CBSE is aiming at making learning and assessment more interactive and inclusive for the students. The board has decided that henceforth the principals of all affiliated schools will act as the pedagogical leaders of their schools. One of the senior board official stated that pedagogical leadership is one that encompasses various roles and functions in the learning organizations. Pedagogy is the theory and practice of education, and how this influences/ affects the growth of learners. The official stated that pedagogical leaders are responsible for supporting teaching and learning in their schools. It involves instructional leadership so as to support classroom teachers in performing their major role of executing the curriculum, and transforming teaching and learning by establishing the norms of persistent quality improvement. So as to ensure mandatory adoption of learning outcomes based on teaching and learning in all the schools, certain directives have been issued that from the 2019-20 academic session, principals of all schools are to assume pedagogical leadership and prepare annual pedagogical plans in association with their teachers for all classes and all subjects that are being taught in the school. The principals shall now be responsible for leadership that is instructional for the support of classroom teachers in their major role. The duties that adhere to this role are implementation of the prescribed curriculum and transformation of the methods of learning and teaching by formulation of organizational norms that ensure quality improvement persistently.  The school principals are expected to be updated with all the latest ideas and tools that are being used and implemented at a global level. Also, the principals are required to indulge in discussions and learn the best of practices from other principals etc. They can also arrange for visits of the teachers of other schools.
