Sharath Kamal: India’s Best Table Tennis Player

Achanta Sharath Kamal, a 36 year old tennis player, hails from Tamil Nadu, a southern state of India. Sharath’s introductory appearance at the Olympics became evident during the Athens 2004 Olympics but failed to qualify for 2012 London Games after losing out on 4 chances to qualify. Recently in Asian Olympics 2018, Sharath took a table with Manika Batra in mixed doubles at Jakrata. Both beat the Chinese pair of Chuqin Wang and Yingsha Sun in the finals to win bronze medal.

As an acclaimed and successful player, Achanta Sharath Kamal has participated in several national and international championships, some of which are as follows:  Spanish First League, Asian Championship, Pro Tour Chile Open, World Table Tennis Championship, Commonwealth Championship and Pro Tour Japan Open. He has proved to be one of the best tennis player in India so far. Sharath Kamal has some prominent wins to his name. In July 2010, Kamal went on to defeat US Open defending champion Thomas Keinath in a heroic battle of 7 games to win 4-3. In the same year he won the Egypt Open beating Li Ching, after that he became the premier Indian to win singles title on the ITTF Pro Tour. He has four gold medals to his name that the punter won two at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games; a gold and bronze at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth games; a gold at Gold Coast, 2018. His career best ranking is 32 and currently he is positioned at 48 among the best. He also captained the Indian men’s team that won the team title at the ITTF Pro tour championship by defeating favorites and nine-time champions England.
