The Human Computer

Born in Bengaluru, on, on 4 November 1929, Shakuntala Devi was given the title of “The Human Computer” for her fascinating skills of calculations. She was not just a mathematical genius but also an Indian writer and a child prodigy. Even after being born in an impoverished family she started displaying her extra-ordinary skills at a very early age. Her father took this opportunity and took her to the circus show where he worked, where she displayed her ability at calculations. She was able to do even the most complicated mathematical calculations in her head and speak out the results effortlessly. The thing that shocked everyone was that the girl had these skills even without any formal training and yet emerged to be one of the most brilliant mathematical minds.

The phenomenal ability to do the most complicated calculations without any aid helped her gain popularity on both national and international level. She also earned herself a spot in ‘The Guinness Book of World Records’.
