Triton- A Strange Moon.
Editorials News | Feb-03-2018
‘Triton’ a Neptune’s moon, it is the largest moon of Neptune. It was discovered by British astronomer William Lassell on October 10, 1846, founded just after few weeks when Neptune was found.
This moon has some strange characteristics; it is the only moon in the solar system which rotates oppositely in comparison to other planets. Moreover its surface is a study for contrasts, which has smooth plains appearing to be right next to curved surfaces. Though, no spacecraft has sent since 1980s to Neptune but telescopes has captured some data on Triton surface. Where season change is been observed on the moon using Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile. It has nitrogen in the atmosphere and icy surface which is somewhat related to Pluto. The spacecraft’s main finding was the icy volcanism which mostly takes place on the surface of Triton’s surface. Two pictures were taken of geyser like volcanic vents which blew out with the nitrogen gas with dark particles. There was one more thing being noticed that a large portion of Triton’s surface has melted which might has happened because of the extreme heat that began when Neptune captured Triton.
